The Marching Pride of the University of North Alabama will be headed to New York City in November to participate in the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade. Covering the costs of the trip got easier with the help of a significant gift from a donor.
The University of North Alabama Clarinet Quartet has been accepted to perform at the International Clarinet Association’s international conference – ClarinetFest 2025 – in July in Fort Worth, Texas.
Music was changing in fall of 1975. Glen Campbell’s “Rhinestone Cowboy” had lost ground to “Fame,” David Bowie’s super-charged funk rock song that features John Lennon. Disco was becoming more firmly entrenched on the radio waves; meanwhile punk rock was in its nascent stages, a reaction to the mainstream progressive and string-heavy pop that dominated the times.
Born out of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering Advisory Board, The Shine podcast has provided a unique opportunity for first-year University of North Alabama students to learn a special skill while also meeting and interviewing alumni of the institution. Ann Berry, who graduated from the University of North Alabama in 1978, is being honored by the State of Alabama with a portrait that was unveiled in the Alabama Department of Archives and History as part of a ceremony today in Montgomery. Berry was sworn in as the 34th secretary of the United States Senate on March 1, 2021; she is the first African American to serve in this position and only the eighth woman to hold the office.
University of North Alabama Senior Caroline Coleman, of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., has been crowned Miss UNA at the Miss UNA program Saturday evening in Norton Auditorium on the UNA campus. Coleman will now move on to compete for the title of Miss Alabama at an event that will take place later this year. Coleman is a psychology major, and she performed a classical opera aria for the talent portion of the program.

The University of North Alabama commemorated 195 years of educational excellence Jan. 13 as part of its annual Founders’ Day event. UNA is Alabama’s oldest four-year public higher education institution, having been established on the LaGrange College site in Colbert County in 1830.
